Late Stages of Stellar Evolution
The Square Kilometer Array will have the sensitivity, spatial resolution, and frequency resolution to provide new scientific knowledge of evolved stars. Four basic areas of scientific exploration are enhanced by the construction of the SKA: 1) detection and imaging of photospheric radio continuum emission and position correlation with maser distributions, 2) imaging of thermal dust emission aro...
متن کاملEarly Evolution of Stellar Clusters
Observations have revealed that most stars are born in clusters. These systems, containing from tens to thousands of stars and typically significant mass in gas in the youngest systems, evolve due to a combination of stellar and star-gas interactions. Simulations of pure stellar systems are used to investigate possible initial configurations including ellipticity, substructure and mass segregat...
متن کاملFUors and Early Stellar Evolution
Ambartsumian was among the first researchers who recognized the importance and uniqueness of FUors, the term he coined for the rare outburst sources of the FU Orionis type. A wealth of observational data and concomitant theoretical work has advanced our understanding of FUors in the intervening almost 40 years. These results are summarized in this brief review, with special emphasis on observat...
متن کاملMultiplicity in Early Stellar Evolution
Many reviews have been written on pre-main-sequence binaries over the past 25 years, e.g., Reipurth (1988), Zinnecker (1989), Mathieu (1994), and Goodwin (2010), and particular mention should be made of IAU Symposium No. 200 (Zinnecker and Mathieu, 2001), which is still today a useful reference. Most recently, Duchêne and Kraus (2013) review the binarity for stars of all masses and ages. Stimul...
متن کاملLate stages of stellar evolution with the Square Kilometer Array
Stars at the end of their lives return much of their mass back to the ISM. This process is the main source of dust in the ISM, and potentially a source of large molecules. I discuss several areas where SKA will have major impact on our understanding of the mass loss and the circumstellar processes. The resulting requirements for SKA, including frequency coverage and location, are discussed.
